Diversity... What a great topic to talk about. It is one of the most important topics in the world today. Diversity is a big deal, its the thing that everybody is talking about. You cannot have a world without diversity. You cannot have a continent without diversity. Heck, you can't even have a state without diversity. Diversity is all around us. In the class room. In our dorms. On the buses. Even just walking around campus, diversity is smacking you in the face.
For my diversity event I went to the speaker who was talking about a Teenager in Alcatraz. The speaker's name was Tim Tingle. He captivated the audience with the story of Clarence Carnes. He brought most of the audience to tears with the vivid story, he even had me tearing up. Tim Tingle told the story of Alcatraz's youngest inmate. He told the story with great detail and care, for it was not his story to tell. Tim first heard the story of Clarence from one of his good friends that lived in Oklahoma, who had personally known Clarence because they used to run together. (Running together means that they were doing bad stuff together if you didn't know that already) The man that told Tim about Clarence also went to jail, but he is now living like a free bird. I even think that he is currently living in one of the towns that he committed a crime in. I really liked this speaker, he didn't back track on what he was talking about. I learned a lot about diversity and I am looking forward to more diversity programs and speakers.
